Will a lift fit in a house that was built without one?
In most detached houses, yes. Self-supporting home lifts typically require around one square metre of floor space and do not need a masonry shaft or a machine room. Typically, the lift is installed in the staircase void, a hallway corner, a former cupboard, or attached externally to the façade. A technician will determine the specific solution for your property during the survey.
Do I need building permission?
It depends on where the lift is installed. An internal lift that does not affect load-bearing structures is usually considered a building modification that authorities do not typically regulate; an external extension alters the appearance and volume of the house and is normally discussed with the authorities. Under the new Building Act (283/2021 Sb.), we will verify this for you at the specific authority and prepare the necessary documentation.
How much space will the lift occupy and what construction work is required?
For self-supporting structures, a level floor, an opening in the ceiling at the lift's travel path, and a standard 230 V electrical socket are sufficient. A floor recess is either not required at all or amounts to just a few centimetres, which can be replaced by a low approach ramp. A masonry shaft is necessary only for conventional cable lifts.
How long does installation take?
The installation of a self-supporting home lift in two to three floors usually takes several days. Preparation takes longer: surveying, technology selection, custom manufacturing (weeks) and any necessary construction work. You will receive the actual schedule in the offer.
Who installs the lift and who maintains it afterwards?
Installation is carried out by a regional installation partner who works with home lifts daily and holds manufacturer authorisation for the specific technology. The same company provides warranty and post-warranty service as well as regular inspections, ensuring that only personnel familiar with the lift visit your property.
